It has been said the brain is like a muscle…it gets stronger with use. Or said another way, use it or lose it. Don’t neglect to keep you student brain challenged and stimulated over summer vacation: go to museums, make regular trips to the library, or taking intellectually stimulating summer courses. The flexibility of summer makes it a great time to delve further into intellectual areas of interest.
Aside from assigning a small assignment to be due months later (like summer reading), schools can do very little over the summer to keep student brains stimulated and growing. Student brains not stimulated over summer will lose skills and knowledge they possessed just months before. Over summer vacation, students and parents must assume the role of keeping their children intellectually stimulated and learning. Keep exercising those brains to make sure your children are as sharp and ready for school this fall.
